Are infographics useful in the digital age?

When radio became popular, there was an idea that the end of books would be like the podcast, the end of radio and television the end of cinema. However, these channels continue to coexist.

Likewise, many thought that the end of the infographic was decreed, but with the growth of Content Marketing it came back with everything.

What is content marketing?

O Content Marketing it has become, practically, just “Marketing”. This marketing involves creating, selecting, distributing and expanding relevant content for your target audience.

To work with content marketing, the professional must be or become a storyteller, because he will need to narrate something that is useful and that will hold the consumer's attention.

What makes content marketing more attractive is the fact that it is accessed through consumer demand and not from companies, it is customers who choose to consume what, when and where they want. If people don't find your product attractive, they won't waste time reading or watching it.

One of the factors that can drive customers away is the excess of text and information spread in a disorganized way. To increase engagement and organize your content, it is very important to use the infographic.

Why had the infographic lost space in marketing?

Between the years 2010 and 2016 there was an outbreak of infographics production, many created without real planning behind. Most of the subjects did not need an entire infographic. In conjunction with the high demand, this process resulted in a large number of very poor quality infographics. What devalued the infographic between professionals and the public a lot.

Only that our friend managed to turn it around and is back with all his strength. Research shows that 36,6% of marketers said they prefer to use original images, such as infographics, in their Content Marketing strategy.

As a result of the previous devaluation process, professionals are being more selective. Designs are created responsively, fonts are larger and vertical graphics are being used. All in the name of a better user experience.

In this new era of infographic, your focus is on the persona. Your goal is no longer focused on just getting attention, but rather passing on useful information.

Does the infographic work in the digital world?

People are getting less and less time to read, while trying to consume as much information as possible. Thus, long articles are discarded and infographics gain space.

How to create high quality infographics?

With infographics becoming popular again, there is a risk of falling into the old pattern of creating low quality pieces. However, there are ways to avoid these pitfalls.

  • The use of well-defined, attractive and highly customizable templates not only facilitates the quick creation of infographics for marketers, but also ensures that there is no compromise on quality.
  • Don't fall into the trap of creating art just because it gets visualizations. Find the story you want to tell through it by asking the question: "What question is the infographic answering?"
  • With that in mind, create an outline. Write down the keyword in focus, as you would in an article or blog post. Map your titles, the data sets you will include and the color scheme.
  • More colors does not mean greater attraction. The colors you choose need to suit the theme of your story. Choose the right type of chart that can share your data effectively, but concisely. Remember not to add too much color to your graphics. It should help to highlight some data and not confuse or scare the user.
  • Play around with the fonts you use, but limit them to no more than three - one for the header, one for the subtitles and one for the body text. Many fonts will fill the design and look amateurish.
