The recovery from the post-covid crisis will certainly favor good deals against the climate crisis. Opportunities for Brazil are already mapped
We do not know what the global economic recovery will look like after the coronavirus epidemic. However, it is clear that it will be green. Economists, respected institutions and countries point out that the great effort to take the economy out of the crisis of Covid will seek to prevent the next major crisis: that of the climate.
This idea comes from the recommendation of the International Monetary Fund. Countries like Holland and Germany also say that investments to reinvigorate the economy will aim to encourage products and services with low emissions.
This opens up an unprecedented opportunity for Brazilian entrepreneurs. Brazil is a natural breadbasket for businesses good for the climate. This is thanks to our predominantly clean energy matrix (solar, hydroelectric, alcohol, wind), our ability to create a good forest economy (which absorbs carbon) and our ability to create alternative materials (such as cane plastic).
However, in Brazil, most of these businesses are starting: 60% are less than five years old. These companies work efficiently and propose different solutions that enable the transition to a low carbon economy.
When thinking about a green industry, we are talking about a global trend. In countries like Canada the industries already have to pay taxes on the carbon they emit. If large companies in Brazil start to be charged too, they may not be able to compete. And that’s why they need to anticipate. Whoever is thinking about investments for the future, such as funds, has to start looking at carbon emissions because that will mean less risk to the business, since regulation is an increasingly certain possibility.
