WhatsApp Web will win video call with up to 50 participants

O Web WhatsApp will allow videoconferencing with up to 50 people simultaneously. The platform is currently testing a new shortcut to Messenger Rooms, a platform announced in April, which will integrate several Facebook services, including Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

The proposal is to be an alternative to apps like Zoom, Google Meet and Skype, which achieved an increase in use during quarantine.

The web version of the messenger already has tests in progress to add an access button to the video calling feature. The expectation is that WhatsApp applications for Android and iPhone (iOS) will also receive the function in the future.

The trial version of WhatsApp Web shows two new shortcuts to access Rooms. One is hidden in a menu next to the new message button. The other appears when clicking on the clip within a chat, below the contact sharing.

Upon accessing it, the application displays a presentation of Messenger Rooms. The message explains that it is possible to use the feature to make an end-to-end encrypted video call, even if the contact is not on Whatsapp or Messenger. When proceeding, the user is directed to the Messenger website, from where they can generate the invitation link or initiate a call with the selected contact.

The role is still in development. For now, the exact release date for all users is not known. According to Facebook, the novelty will appear first on Facebook, Messenger and Facebook Dating, then it would appear on WhatsApp.

Currently, it is worth remembering, WhatsApp allows you to make online calls with up to eight participants. The function is available on Android and iPhone if all members of the call have the latest version of the application.
