Slack: Optimize your team's internal communication

Do you know Slack? This is the internal communication channel we use in Amplifica Digital, well before quarantine and remote work. However, now this platform has helped us a lot in the organization and daily communication.

In this post we will present this super useful tool.

Slack is a startup launched in 2014, in order to help companies improve their internal communication.

Slack does away with the use of Whatsapp during work and avoids the exchange of endless emails with short and simple topics.

What is Slack?

In summary, Slack is an internal communication platform for your company. It has several features that allow you to share files and make video calls.

With Slack you can organize your team's conversations through channels, open or closed. You can create a channel to follow the development of a project, to discuss a topic, for the communication of a specific team of your company, among other things, sharing files easily and all this in the same work environment.

How to use Slack?

Create teams

To start using Slack you need to create a team, which will normally be where you will manage the internal communication of your company or startup. It is possible to create more than one team within Slack, if your company is divided into business units, for example.

Create placements

For each team you create channels with your subjects of interest. For example: creation, customer service, production, development, support, etc.

These channels can be public, with access by all company participants, or closed, which can be useful when developing a specific project, for example.

Direct messages

Do you want to speak directly to someone? You can exchange messages directly with a person or group without the entire channel participating and you don't need to use WhatsApp or Skype to do this, you do it directly on Slack.

Slach commands

Slack has a series of commands to make your life easier. For example, if you want to quote a person, use @name, or if you want to notify a channel, use #name, when you are typing your message.

In addition, there are "Slash commands", started with a slash like this "/".

By typing / remind, you can receive a reminder from Slack of what you need to do later, for example: / remind in 3 hours to start the meeting with the customer.

Other commonly used commands:

  • / call: to open a voice call
  • / collapse: hide the images of a conversation, to make it easier to understand what happened
  • / expand: to undo the above command
  • / away: change your status to let everyone know you're busy
  • / msg or / dm @ personname: to send a direct message to someone

File Sharing

In addition to being able to simply drag and drop images to your messages, Slack allows the sharing of files of the most diverse types and also helps you to understand what it is about, as it creates an explanatory icon of what the file format is, its size , name and other data.

Slack Smartphone App

Slack also works on smartphones, which can be good on the one hand, but become an addiction on the other.

To download the Slack app in Portuguese, choose the link corresponding to your device:: iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
