Backlinks: what are they and what are they for?

What are backlinks?

Backlinks are those links inserted in the course of a post that redirect the reader to some other content that is also relevant. The backlinks can lead to a page within your website or outside of it.

In the case of internal backlinks, the linked pages are generally related to their content and are intended to increase the reader's stay on your site. External backlinks, that is, those that redirect to another site, are used mainly when the subject in question does not have space on your site, but it is still worth mentioning. In this case, it is always interesting to assess the reputation and credibility of the website before linking to it.

There are also the case of other sites that can link your domain, if you offer interesting and quality publications.

The main purpose of backlinks is to make the visitor's reading experience complete. As we mentioned, from them, the reader can find content that better explain certain topics and thus get clear information on the subject. For example, if you have a blog about Information Technology and at some point need to talk about economics, you can redirect your reader to a more qualified portal to talk about the subject.

What are backlinks for?

In addition to a good user experience, backlinks also aim to:

  • Acquisition of referral traffic;
  • Good ranking in search engine ranking (SEO);
  • Brand strengthening (Brand Awareness);

When you earn good backlinks by directing people to your pages, your chances of appearing on the first page of Google are higher. In other words, you are telling the algorithm that what your page offers is valuable and deserves to be shown along with the main results.

during users' searches for certain keywords.

 From these positive results, your brand gains recognition in the market and through consistency, it becomes a reference in the subject in question.

What are the types of backlinks?

There are a few different types of backlinks, which aim at different results. Check out:

1- Nofollow

When you name the chosen link Nofollow it means that your site has no relationship with the site cited. This tag is used when you are not sure where the linked content comes from, and if possible, this practice should be avoided.

Furthermore, the Nofollow it also has the purpose of tagging links left in the comments, so that Google does not think that they have anything to do with its published content.

The expression nofollow, in Portuguese, it means “Do not follow”. This means that Google bots will not visit the link in question.

2 - Dofollow

Dofollow, on the other hand, are those links that are tagged as transmitters of authority, that is, it is interesting that Google bots visit them.

Imagine that your website is mentioned by a large portal in your niche. This gives authority to your content and can bring a high number of visitors. The same is true when you attach links to your own website.

In other words, this tag shows the algorithm and the users that that content is reliable and therefore, your visitor traffic is positively influenced.

3 - Link Juice

O Juice Link it concerns a shared authority. When tagged in this way, the link tells the algorithm that both those who cited and those who were cited have quality content that deserves to be noticed.
